The Tipton boys basketball team fell to Linn 47-44 in overtime in the Class 2, District 8 final on Saturday at Russellville.
The Cardinals trailed 13-12 after one quarter and led 25-23 at halftime before a Linn run opened the third quarter.
“We knew they were going to switch up defenses and we didn’t execute very well,” said Tipton coach Billy Jeffries.
Linn led by nine at one point early int he fourth quarter before the Cardinals rallied back to tie the game on a basket by Grant Huhman off an inbounds play and the buzzer.
Early in the overtime period, Tipton could not capitalize on a pair of chances to take the lead, both open looks that rattled out. After a Linn basket, Tipton had a chance to tie the game but a basket was waved off due to a charge call.
“We had our chances,” Jeffries said. “The kids played really well. They were big and they were good.”
Dylan Tate and Dylan Cooper were both named to the All-District team. Cooper scored 15 points in the final while Tate had seven points and 10 rebounds. Logan Hirst scored 12.
The Cardinals finish the season 19-9.
