Central Missouri’s bats exploded in a doubleheader sweep, taking the first game 6-1 and the second 16-6 against Pittsburg State Friday to open a weekend series.
UCM scored two runs in the second, third and fourth of the first game. The Mules bats got going in the second thanks to a Barrett Noirfalise double. DYlan Hanson added an RBI single in the third and Brad Wilson and Tony Sandifer drove in runs in the fourth.
Jake Heissler scattered seven hits and allowed one unearned run in a seven-inning complete game.
In game two, the Mules scored three in the bottom of the third, seven in the fourth and three more in each of the next two innings.
The seven-run fourth began with a pair of walks before Trevor Jones drove in Matt Molbury with a double down the right field line. Back-to-back walks then scored another run before Sandifer drove in a pair of runs with a double to right-center. Another run scored on a sacrifice fly and Brad Jelinek came through with a single up the middle to make it 10-2.
Jelinek finished the game 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. After drawing a walk in the third inning, he advanced to second when Jones was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Jake Alexander.
In the sixth inning, Wilson scored the Mules’ final run with a two-run homer to left.
UCM starter Ricky Rivera pitched five innings, allowing five runs and striking out five.
The series continues with a 2 p.m. doubleheader Sunday.
