Park University left-handed hitter Dylan Mays hit .786 in four games from March 10-16 to help the Pirates bash a school record and start 5-1 in conference play. On March 17, he was named American Midwest Conference Baseball Player of the Week for helping Park to a second-place start in the league.
Mays, a senior from Sedalia, had a career-high five RBIs in a record-setting win over Williams Baptist College, going 3 for 4 with four runs. Park won the game 23-8, breaking a three-year-old record of 21 runs in a win in 2011 against Dallas Christian College.
Park swept Williams Baptist in a three-game series, beginning with a pair of wins last Tuesday in a doubleheader in Walnut Ridge. Mays went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two runs and three RBIs in a 7-3 win, and in game two, Park won 8-5 behind a 3-for-3, two-RBI performance with a double and a run scored.
Mays didn’t play the final two games in the weekend series with Hannibal-LaGrange after the Pirates won the opener over the Trojans 9-7 on Friday afternoon. He was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run in the win over HLGU, bringing his batting average to .786 for the week. He slugged 1.071 and had an on-base percentage better than .800, adding five walks.
