The Sedalia Sting U-13 girls soccer team won two games Sunday at the Heritage Soccer Park in Kansas.
The Sting beat KC Blaze Arsenal in the first game 3-1. After coming up empty on several chances in the first 30 minutes, Kayla Leach broke through with a goal to put the Sting ahead 1-0, taking a pass near midfield and dribbling into the penalty area before firing a shot into the net. The second Sting goal came just before halftime as Tiffany Kanny converted on a cross from Nia Hawkins.
The Sting got another goal from Leach in the second half before Arsenal got one back late in the game.
Sedalia beat KC Legends Fury 1-0 in game two. Marta Treuner celebrated her birthday with the game’s only goal. Treuner scored on a penalty kick after a handball on the Legends.
Sting goalkeeper McKenna Perusich was credited with eight saves in earning the shutout. Perusich was aided by a stiff defense consisting of Emma Sharp, Carin Whittall, Reagan Braverman, Holly Thomas, Kelsey Sharp, and Megan Toops.
The Sting move to 3-1 on the season and into second place in the Heartland Soccer Association.
