Northwest won a district baseball championship in walk-off fasion, beating Green Ridge 4-3 on Tuesday in La Monte.


Daniel Blaylock sparked the seventh inning rally with a one-out double and came around to score.


Green Ridge scored a run in the first before the Mustangs jumped ahead on a run in the second and one in the third. The Tigers retook the lead in the fifth but Northwest again tied the game, setting up the win in the seventh.


Truman Leicher started for Northwest and pitched five innings for a no decision, striking out six. Trey Green pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the win. He struck out four.


Justin McCarthy went 6 1-3 innings for the Tigers, allowed two earned runs, struck out eight and allowed no walks.


At the plate, Cortlen Austin hit a solo home run for Northwest, going 2 for 3.


Axton Harding went 2 for 4 for Green Ridge with two doubles and an RBI. Connor Dillon was 3 for 3.


Girls Soccer


Clinton 5, Stover 0


Stover fell to Clinton 5-0 in the first round of the Class 1, District 9 girls soccer tournament on Tuesday at Clover Dell Park.


Clinton got a pair of first half goals from Tori Kraft before Adriane Dehn added two goals in the second half and Laurel Dehn finished off the scoring.


Clinton will face Sacred Heart for the district championship at 6 p.m. tomorrow.


Late Monday


Baseball


Pilot Grove 1, Calvary Lutheran 0


The Pilot Grove baseball team opened district play Monday with a 1-0 win over Calvary Lutheran.


Trenton Young pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout for the Tigers. He struck out 10 and walked one.


Calvary Lutheran’s Beau Monson nearly matched him, taking a shutout into the bottom of the sixth until Pilot Grove scored what proved to be the winning run. An error, a single and an intentional walk loaded the bases with one out for Jake Leverton and he bunted down the first-base line to bring home the run.


Pilot Grove (15-5) will face host New Franklin in the Class 1, District 10 championship game at 6 p.m. today.
