Celebration opportunities abound for New Year's Eve

Here is a look at the events coming up for New Year’s Eve on Wednesday and early Thursday in Sedalia and elsewhere:

Malone’s on Main

Malone’s on Main, at 115 W. Main St., will host a New Year’s Eve party. Advance tickets cost $10. The advance package includes a private pre-party beverage package from 7 to 9 p.m. and reserved seating. After 9 p.m., admission is $5. 

Both types of tickets will include party favors, a champagne toast at midnight and a cash balloon drop at midnight.

Dickie Doo

Dickie Doo Bar-B-Que at 4860 S. Limit Ave. will host a New Year’s Eve party with the Humminbirds.

Tickets cost $65 per couple or $45 for singles and include choice of prime rib, Kansas City strip, ribeye steak or deep fried or boiled shrimp dinner, and a free champagne toast at midnight. Happy hour prices will be all night long.

Cruiser’s

Cruiser’s Night Club will host a New Year’s 2009 Party at 200 Industrial Road. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and admission is $5 per person. The party will include party favors, complimentary champagne and hors d’ouvres.

KNOB NOSTER

KNOB NOSTER — County Liners will be the featured band at a New Year’s Eve party from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4195 on state Route D.

The dance is open to the public for $15 per person, which includes breakfast. No outside beverages may be brought into the hall; however, people are allowed to bring snacks.

BUNCETON

BUNCETON — The Bunceton Lions Club will host a New Year’s Eve dance from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the Lions Club at 200 N. Walnut St. Norbert Langkop and the Melody Makers will perform. Admission is $7 for singles or $12 per couple. People may bring snacks.

KANSAS CITY

KANSAS CITY — Angels Rock Bar will present New Year’s Eve Tats and Tuxes from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. at 1323 Walnut Ave. 

Advance tickets cost $30 and tickets at the door cost $40. For more information, call 816-896-3943.

SPRINGFIELD

First Night Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — The 18th annual First Night Springfield will be in downtown Springfield from 5:30 p.m. to midnight. 

This community-wide, alcohol-free celebration of the visual and performing arts will include live music, theater, dancing and children’s activities. The theme is “Experience It All Downtown.” 

Featured performances by Building 429, Nick, Ruell and Ned the Band, The Skinny Improv, Springfield Little Theatre’s Y.E.S. Troupes, Springfield Regional Opera, Springfield Symphony, Movies at Hollywood Theatres, Kristi Merideth featuring guitarist Joe Tonyan, Voices of Deliverance, Hogmolly, Lyle Strickland and musical stories with Judy Domney Bowen will take place.

Other activities include open ice skating, rock climbing, video gaming at the 1984 arcade and children’s activities featuring Chinese name painting with Hing Wah Hatch. 

A First Night Springfield ticket is required for admission into all events. Advance tickets cost $7 per person or $25 for a family of four. Tickets the night of the event cost $8 per person or $30 for a family of four. Children 3 and younger are admitted free.

LAKE OF THE OZARKS

LAKE OF THE OZARKS — Liverpool, a Beatles tribute band, will ring in the new year with a concert at the Horny Toad, 2325 Bittersweet Road. 

Packages for couples for admission to the New Year’s Eve party only cost $75; party and dinner cost $150; party, dinner and a room cost $300; and party, dinner and a suite cost $400.

COLUMBIA

New Year’s Eve Bash

COLUMBIA — Videology and The Blue Note will present New Year’s Eve Bash 2008 with The Covers.

Doors will open at 8:30 p.m. Advance tickets cost $10 and tickets the day of the show cost $15. 

The Covers, featuring members of Shirrelle C. Limes and the Lemons, Haii Usagi, Blacksmith, Roy C’s Band and more, will perform a variety of cover songs.

Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com.

First Night

COLUMBIA  — First Night Columbia will begin at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Columbia and on the campus of Stephens College.

Entertainment includes more than 60 performances plus activities and art at 15 downtown venues. 

Eventgoers will travel from one location to the next. They can see dance and rock bands, children’s performers, guitarists, dueling pianists, magic shows and a venue just for teenagers.

Children can make a mask, crown or noisemaker at the children’s art area. A children’s procession will begin at 9:15 p.m. and will end with a fireworks display. 

At 11:30 p.m., the people’s procession will lead revelers to the finale at the courthouse square, with entertainment and fireworks at midnight.

Early button sales cost $8 for people 8 and older. They are available until 4 p.m. Wednesday at Columbia Parks and Recreation, Streetside Records and Gerbes Supermarket. 

Tickets at the door cost $10 on Wednesday and will be available at the YouZeum and Stamper Commons after 5:30 p.m.

Mojo’s  

COLUMBIA — The Bel Airs will ring in the new year at 8:30 p.m. at Mojo’s, 1013 S. Park Ave. 

Brothers Dick and Dave Pruitt on bass and electric guitars, with Michael Cherry on drums, have a sound influenced by Wilson Pickett, Slim Harpo, Howlin’ Wolf and Johnny Cash.

Tickets cost $15 and are available through Ticketmaster. 

The Blue Fugue

COLUMBIA — New Year’s Eve at The Blue Fugue will feature The Engine, Hooten Hallers and Ptmarmigan Dave Angle at 8 p.m. at 120 S. Ninth St. For more information, call 573-815-9995.

ROCHEPORT

ROCHEPORT — Les Bourgeois Vineyards will host a New Year’s Eve celebration. 

Visitors may enjoy dinner on the bluff top for $55 per person. The meal includes a choice of appetizers, soups and salads, entrees and desserts. Complimentary champagne will be served.

Les Bourgeois will host a VIP Midnight celebration from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. The cost is $20 per person and includes a champagne toast, disc jockey, party favors and an open bar. 

The cost is $10 for people who have dinner reservations.
