After back to back ice and snow storms, Sedalia residents may be feeling the signs of cabin fever. For those needing to get out of the house, the third annual Chocolate Crawl could be the best remedy.
Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, the crawl will feature 20 downtown businesses offering free sweet treats for shoppers. Sedalia Downtown Development Inc. Administrator Meg Liston said the event started as a way to get people into downtown stores.
“We wanted adult shoppers to drop into various retail stores to get a view of what the shop, and downtown, has to offer,” she said. “And in the meantime they can enjoy a variety of chocolate treats.”
Despite the slight chance for snow Friday evening, Liston encouraged residents to take part in the crawl, noting the downtown streets and sidewalks will be clear for the event, which will take place rain or shine.
“After a week of staying home, I’m hoping people will want to get out of the house and do something,” Liston said. “We’ll be watching to make sure the sidewalks are clear and safe for everyone. Hopefully it’ll be a good day to take a walk through downtown.”
As an extra incentive, several gift baskets will be raffled off for those who visit at least 12 participating businesses; crawlers who go to all 20 businesses will have additional chances to win. Entry forms are available at Twarkles, 307 S. Ohio Ave., and must be initialed by each business to qualify.
“The baskets are made up of items donated from the participating businesses, so we have some great things,” Liston added. “The Chocolate Crawl is always a fun event and we hope to see everyone out downtown enjoying the day and the shops.”
