There’s a full day of events planned in Cole Camp Saturday, and from a pancake breakfast to a 5K run/2K walk to a pub crawl, there’s something for everyone.
The day begins with a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Cole Camp Chamber of Commerce in the Lutheran School cafeteria. Pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs will be served starting at 6:30 a.m. for a free will offering.
For those wanting to get in a little exercise during their weekend, the Cole Camp Community Center committee is sponsoring a 5K run/2K walk starting at 8 a.m. at the Lutheran School, 204 E. Butterfield Trail. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the cost is $20 per person. All proceeds will go into the fund to build a Cole Camp Community Center.
“This is a fundraiser for the Cole Camp Community Center project. The board was formed in order to research, design and hopefully implement a community center, that’s our goal is to build an actual community center,” said board member Thaney Brockman. “This is our fourth year doing the 5k, and in January was our third chocolate gala and wine tasting.”
Brockman said so far registration numbers are good and higher than last year, although last year’s race had snow in the forecast. For more information about the race, contact Brockman at 668-4488.
There will also be a vendor/craft fair hosted by CoCaDamen from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. There is no admission cost for the event, which will have more than 20 vendors and concessions.
Saturday also marks the first day of the Cole Camp Area Farmers Market for the 2014 season at the band stand on Main Street.
The German festivities begin with The German Table hosting its first Wurstfest from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., which includes a special menu featuring a variety of German sausages and sides.
The day wraps up with the fourth annual Pub Crawl from 5 to 9 p.m., sponsored by the Cole Camp Chamber of Commerce with a new German theme instead of the usual Cinco de Mayo theme — the Best “Wurst” Pub Crawl. Food and drink specials will be available to those who purchase a $10 ticket at 4K Cheese & Meats, Calgaro’s Pizzaria, Cole Camp Inn, Handel Haus, Red Baron and The German Table.
Those with a ticket can participate in a poker “crawl” by drawing a card at each business.
“Instead of getting a ticket stamped, they get a card,” said Judy Silva, Second Vice President of the Cole Camp Chamber of Commerce. “You don’t have to go to all six locations, but if you go to all six you can try to get the best hand.”
The best poker hand wins $100 in cash and other prizes will be available for other participants.
“There’s a lot of activities, you can eat all day — The German Table opens at 11 a.m., you can go for breakfast, all the other restaurants are going to be open,” Silva said. “There’s just various activities to go to. It’s supposed to be a nice day, so you can enjoy the restaurants and shops in Cole Camp. Come down, it’ll be a good time.”
