Mark your calendars! Even though we have not officially re-scheduled the long-postponed “Spring on Broadway,” we have scheduled a really fabulous musical event.
A few years ago, Big Boy Groups became famous: The Three Tenors, The Irish Tenors, The Texas Tenors, and Il Divo, to name a few. Coming to Broadway Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 — Two And A Half Tenors!
One of the really good things about going to a small liberal arts college such as William Jewell is that the alums keep up with each other. One of my William Jewell friends, Larry Harman, is a judge in Liberty. He is extremely musically talented, playing several instruments and different kinds of music. He plays drums with a jazz group every first Monday in a venue on the square in Liberty; Max went to hear them when he was in Liberty for a trial. When we were in college, he played keyboard at the Shrine Club in his home town of St. Joseph, and I sang torch songs with the group.
Well, I saw Larry (he says I can call him Larry when he isn’t in court!) at a party a month ago, and he told me about a group he had formed — the Two And A Half Tenors.
The Half Tenor is Bryan Taylor, who is really a baritone, but who is a two-time Grammy winner and who has sung at Carnegie Hall. Larry had a recording of the group singing on Mother’s Day, and when I heard it, I was sold. They had to come to Sedalia.
So after four weeks of trying to figure this out, we have found a date and time. Come to Broadway at 7 p.m. Aug. 17 and listen to three tenors — well, two and a half — sing absolutely beautifully! Admission is free. I know you won’t be disappointed!
And isn’t it great to keep up with college friends?
See you Aug. 17!
