Friends who live in states where few, if any, abortion clinics exist are having difficulties finding places where they can receive help. Unfortunately, there seems to be very little help for women who have children outside of marriage.

Finding foster families for children is not an easy task. I have one cousin who volunteered to accept a pre-teen child several years ago. She managed to keep the child until he reached adulthood, but it wasn’t easy,

We have done an inadequate job of making it easy for women with children to have a good life. Word from the Census Department is that young men and young women are taking a longer time to get married. They are living together outside of marriage to take their time to establish themselves in their careers.

In other words, they are disturbing the image of our concept of a traditional family. For so long we have adopted the image of wife, husband and two children as the ideal American family. Now we will have to reconsider our point of view.

It is all about money. To feed, clothe and shelter a family requires a certain amount of income. The cost of a living wage has not kept pace with the cost of living. Older family members can no longer provide a household for unmarried women with children. Often older family members have health issues that limit their having excess income.

Unfortunately, many women work at employment that is underpaid. Government assistance and food stamps do not fit the bill in supporting a family. When government makes family planning impossible, people will have families they cannot afford.

Many families out of frustration have fallen into drug use. More and more young people are being arrested for using drugs. This is simply adding to the problems when often these same young people are responsible for caring for young families.

Certain individuals think there is too much government meddling in our lives. If that is true then individual private citizens are going to have to step up to the plate and began helping to solve some of the social problems that are burdening our society.

What is going to happen to the women and children that are being thrown away by this society? We call ourselves a Christian country. When will we act?
