SFCC to show documentary about death penalty
Comments 0 | Recommend 0State Fair Community College will sponsor a free preview screening and discussion of the independent film, “At the Death House Door,” at 6 p.m. Monday in the Media Forum in the Yeater Learning Center.
The film is an intimate look at the death penalty in Texas through the eyes of Pastor Carroll Pickett, who served 15 years as the death house chaplain at the “Walls” prison unit in Huntsville.
The film also focuses on the story of Carlos De Luna, a convict whom Pickett believed was innocent, and the investigative efforts of Chicago Tribune reporters who turned up evidence supporting that De Luna was wrongly executed.
The criminal justice program at SFCC is sponsoring the Independent Film Channel (IFC) screening, said James Cunningham, program coordinator. The film lasts about an hour and a half.
A screening for students is planned from 10 a.m. to noon.
For more information, call Cunningham at (660) 530-5800, ext. 7367.
