Warsaw offers principal job to Sorrells

Larry Sorrells is expected to be the next principal of Warsaw High School.

In a statement released today, the Warsaw R-IX School District named Sorrells as the candidate who was offered a contract Tuesday. Sorrells described himself as a leader with integrity and said he is thrilled to take the position.

“It is a wonderful opportunity, and I think Warsaw would be a tremendous place to work. They do have a good reputation, and I do believe that I would be someone that would do them a great job,” he said.

Sorrells holds a Career Administrative Certificate for principal grades seven through 12. He completed his master’s and specialist degrees in educational administration and received a Missouri superintendent certificate.

Sorrells was principal at Southwest High School in Washburn, Mo., for two years and principal at East Carter County R-II High School in Elsinore, Mo., this year. He also taught high school science for eight years in Willow Springs School District.

The Warsaw position is “an opportunity to be someplace where we can truly accomplish something and we can set team goals together and accomplish those goals,” he said.

He left East Carter earlier this year. East Carter Superintendent Daniel Slack gave Sorrells a strong recommendation.

Slack said in a phone interview Thursday that Sorrells is a strong decision-maker and helps build school spirit.

“He just has good ideas with doing that. He works with kids well,” he said.

Slack said he is a good instructional leader and is focused on professional development.

“He’s really focused on academics and really understands the place extracurriculars and activities have in the school system,” Slack said.
