The Warsaw R-IX School District has named Brian Weyrauch as the new assistant principal for Warsaw High School.

The school board voted to offer a contract to Weyrauch, principal of Lexington Middle School in Lexington, Mo., during a closed session meeting last Thursday. He accepted the job Monday.

Weyrauch, who started his career as an art teacher at Blue Springs High School, will start Aug. 1. His salary will be $50,000.

Assistant Superintendent Claudia Gott said Weyrauch was a finalist for the high school principal position. The new principal, Larry Sorrells, helped interview candidates for the assistant principal job. Sorrells, who was hired earlier this month, will start July 1.

Gott said Weyrauch was one of 42 applicants for the position.

Weyrauch, who also taught in Columbia, said Tuesday he looks forward to joining the district.

“One of the biggest things that appealed to me ... is the leadership. It seems like Larry Sorrells and I had very similar values and goals and ideas as far as what administration should be like or look like,” he said.

Weyrauch said he hopes to develop a collegial atmosphere at the school.

“I’ve got a lot of energy, I’ve got a very welcoming and outgoing personality and an open-door policy,” he said.

The all-new administrative team at the school will be a new challenge.

“It can be a very optimistic situation because we can all come together as a unified administrative team,” he said. “Everyone’s going to be working together to try to move forward.”

Weyrauch’s wife, Anne, works with the Parents as Teachers program in Lexington. The couple have three children: Adam, 14; Noah, 12; and Jenna, 8.

Assistant Principal Brandon Harding resigned earlier this year to take a position in another district.
