Two Smith-Cotton administrators injured

Two Sedalia school administrators were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Morgan County as they returned from a professional meeting Tuesday.

Smith-Cotton High School Principal Todd Whitney, 44, of Warrensburg, and Assistant Principal Kristee Lorenz, 41, of Sedalia, were treated and released at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, a hospital spokesman said.

The two were hurt in a two-vehicle accident at about 12:45 p.m. on U.S. 52 in Barnett, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Sedalia Schools Superintendent Doug Ebersold said the administrators were returning from the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals spring conference at the Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark.

Whitney was driving west when a vehicle driven by Sharon K. Martin, 49, of Versailles, made a left turn from the eastbound lane.
Martin was taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City. She was being treated in the hospital’s emergency room Tuesday afternoon, said a spokeswoman for the hospital.

Whitney was not wearing a seat belt, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report.
Ebersold said he heard about the accident at about 2 p.m., and had since spoken with Whitney.
“They’re doing all right. ... They’re a bit banged up,” he said.

He did not know whether either would return to the school Wednesday.

“I would guess they probably won’t, but you never know. I would guess they’re sore; there’s no question about that,” he said.
He said the two were in Whitney’s personal vehicle.
