Fire department reminds residents burning leaves in city illegal
Comments 0 | Recommend 0In response to calls about burning leaves in town, the Sedalia Fire Department wants to remind residents that open burning is illegal inside the city limits.
According to a news release from the fire department, permits may be obtained to burn limbs only, and an inspection by fire department personnel is required prior to the permit being issued. No permits will be issued for burning leaves.
If a resident does burn leaves, they may be issued a ticket or a Municipal Court summons, and if the fire does any damage to property other then their own, the resident may be held financially responsible as well, the release said.
Leaves may be dropped off at the Sedalia yard waste drop-off facility located at 28th Street and South New York Avenue. Winter hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
For more information on the leaf burning restriction, call the Sedalia Fire Department at 826-8044.
