SMART classroom coming to Clinton

The State Fair Community College Foundation has received $5,000 from the Truman Lake Community Foundation to help buy equipment for a SMART classroom.

A SMART classroom is a classroom that that has an instructor station equipped with computer and audiovisual equipment, allowing the instructor to teach using a wide variety of media. The classroom will be located at SFCC’s extended campus site in the new Truman Regional Education Center, or TREC, in Clinton, which is slated to open Jan. 11 for the spring semester.

The classroom will be equipped with a personal computer, a ceiling-mounted projector, a SMART board, a sound system, a DVD player, a document camera and an Internet connection.

SFCC President Marsha Drennon said the college is thrilled with the community support and the opportunity to build partnerships in Clinton.

“Partnerships like this strengthen communities,” Drennon said. “Equipping the center with cutting-edge technology will give instructors the best possible tools to create an enriched student-centered learning environment.”

Drennon said the technology would give residents access to quality higher education programs that will provide them with the skills, knowledge and perspectives that are essential in today’s world.
