Investigators believe three bank robberies, including one in Sedalia, were commited by same man
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A string of bank robberies in Sedalia, Moberly and Rolla are now thought to be the work of one man.
Sedalia Police Commander Larry Ward, met with officials from the Moberly Police Department, Rolla Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the FBI on Tuesday to compare photos and videos of a man who has robbed three banks.
“Same M.O. (modus operandi) and same individual,” Ward said.
At about 9 a.m. Aug. 10, Excel Bank on South Limit Avenue was robbed.
A 6-foot-tall, 300-pound white man went to the bank and approached two of the three tellers inside. The robber showed the tellers a semi-automatic pistol and “directed them to put money in a bag,” Ward said.
On March 13, Commerce Bank North in Moberly was robbed and Dec. 18, the Town & Country Bank in Rolla was robbed.
“We’re compiling lists of all our suspects,” Ward said.
Ward said the agencies are working on compiling a poster which will include all of the identifying factors of the robber to be distributed throughout Missouri.
Officials do not know if the robber is still in Missouri.
“We have no idea because it’s just such a vast area,” Ward said.
The man is described as being in his late 40s to early 50s with a scruffy beard, or two to three days’ of growth. In each of the robberies, the man was wearing a hat and dark sunglasses.
The robber drove away from the Sedalia robbery in a white 1997 to 2000 model Dodge Caravan or Plymouth Voyager.
Bank robberies can be a state or federal offense.
No one was injured during any of the robberies.
Ward said officials are working to set up a phone line dedicated to this case through Crime Stoppers.
Anyone with information regarding this robbery can call 826-8100.
