Bothwell seeks hospice volunteers; training scheduled for February
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Bothwell Regional Health Center Hospice will hold training sessions in February for hospice volunteer companions interested in providing respite care for hospice patients and their families.
Hospice volunteer companions provide non-medical care for hospice patients in their homes for a few hours per week to allow family caregivers the opportunity to have time away, according to a news release from Bothwell Regional Health Center.
“The families really appreciate the volunteers because it allows caregivers to have some much needed time away,” Connie Tinsley, a certified thanatologist, said.
A thanatologist is a person who studies the phenomena of death and the psychological mechanisms for coping with them.
Volunteers are needed throughout Pettis County, and in Warsaw, Lincoln, Cole Camp, Windsor, Knob Noster, Sweet Springs and Tipton.
Free training sessions can be scheduled by calling Tinsley at 829-2700. Training sessions are held at the Bothwell Regional Health Center Hospice and Home Health Office in the Thompson Hills Shopping Center in Sedalia.
