Neglected pit bull puppy found in ditch dies

Comments 0

A neglected pit bull puppy dropped off at the Mid-Missouri Humane Society last week has died of Parvovirus.

Desmond was a little more than 2 months old when a man found him in a ditch along South Ingram Avenue. The puppy had spent about a month with a tight rope or cord cutting into his neck.

The puppy was treated for free by Thompson Hills Animal Clinic Dr. Clark Fobian after being brought to the shelter.

Parvovirus, also known as Parvo, is a viral disease that attacks the white blood cells, intestinal tract and heart muscles in dogs. It affects puppies more frequently than adult dogs.

Shelter Manager Crystal Johnson said she was sad, but there are plenty of animals looking for a good home.

The shelter, located at 2900 W. Main St., is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
