Highway Patrol: Text messaging leads to crash in Morgan County

A Stover woman was injured Wednesday after being struck by a driver who was text messaging, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

Becky L. Burkhart, 28, was transported to University Hospital in Columbia shortly after 10 p.m. with serious injuries, according to a Highway Patrol report.

Burkhart was southbound on state Route 5 in Morgan County when she was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Boonville resident Teddy W. Newell. Troopers reported the accident occurred as Newell was text messaging while driving.

No charges or summons were issued in the accident.

This really sounds like it could be a Sedalia story. All of us need to get out and text and have a phone on both of our ears while we are driving. Bad thing is, this is done everyday by the people and the police officers driving up and down the streets in Sedalia. Have you ever noticed it?

Lets all text and talk on the phone why should we pay attention to where we are driving. We are busy running STOP lights and signs, changing lanes in a split second, almost hit the car next to us. Now let’s get on the drag strip of Limit and Broadway and talk on the phone and forget we are going 30 mph over the speed limit. Don’t worry the cop on the other side of the road is ON THE PHONE.

I really do feel sorry for this lady and I hope she will be alright but this guy needs to do a little time behind the bars so he can think about his actions. Okay I will shut up now. I think I have made my point, sorry folks, I can’t; I just got another PHONE call. What a wonderful world we live in! LOL
