Cole Camp woman sentenced for fraud
A Cole Camp woman was sentenced in federal court Friday for bank fraud and identity theft, according to Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri.
Jeannie Marie Bain, 30, of Cole Camp, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nanette K. Laughrey to four years in federal prison without parole.
On Feb. 11, 2010, Bain pleaded guilty to bank fraud, to using a false Social Security number and to aggravated identity theft. Bain admitted that she used a Social Security card and a Missouri driver’s license that belonged to another person to open a checking account in that person’s name at a Sedalia bank on April 10, 2009, according to a news release from the office of the United States Attorney, Western District of Missouri.
Between April 20 and April 29, 2009, Bain wrote 59 checks on that account, totaling $11,844.
Bain, who used another person’s driver’s license as identification and signed that person’s name to the checks, wrote checks at various businesses in Sedalia, La Monte, Independence, Lee’s Summit, Warsaw and Warrensburg, the release stated.
