Literacy program seeks tutors

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The State Fair Community College Literacy Program is seeking volunteer tutors for adults in reading, language, math and life skills.

Tutors also are needed to help teach English to students in the English as a Second Language program. Tutors can serve as little as two hours a week, in the day and evening.

Literacy assistance will help people who read at a sixth-grade level or below, and helps participants learn basic business transactions such as completing a job application or balancing a checkbook, reading to their children, or ultimately attaining a GED.

The program offers services in Sedalia, Appleton City, Lowry City, Boonville, Marshall, Carrollton, Osceola, Clinton, Hermitage, Warrensburg, Leeton, Warsaw and Windsor.

For more information call Debbi Wiskur, literacy coordinator, at (660) 530-5800, ext. 7380 or ext. 7289.
