Group names Valiant woman
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Sedalia unit of Church Women United recently awarded member Jo Ann Lambirth its highest honor, the Valiant Woman of the Year award.
“I had no idea I was going to win anything,” Lambirth said. “It’s quite an honor though; we’ve only given out this award a few times over the years.”
Kathryn Rayford, president of the Sedalia chapter of CWU, said a committee nominated Lambirth because of her dedication to service in the community and her work with CWU. Lambirth was given the award at the CWU’s May Friendship Luncheon.
“Jo Ann has been a member of CWU for over 25 years,” she said. “She’s served on various committees, as vice president of the state CWU and editor of the state newsletter.”
Lambirth also serves on the board of Open Door Ministries, is the local unit president of United Methodist Women, and has coordinated fundraisers, bereavement dinners and a once-a-month donation to the Community Cafe through her church, First United Methodist.
“I thought this award was well deserved,” said Judi Ebers, a member of CWU. “She’s very unselfish in her efforts to work with the church and the club. I think women need role models in their lives, and Jo Ann is a great one.”
“I’m just a missionary-minded person,” said Lambirth. “I don’t feel I’ve done a day’s work unless I’ve helped someone.”
