Three people were hurt Monday when two vehicles collided in the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 65.

Marie L. Mullens, 89, of Ionia, was airlifted to University Hospital in Columbia just before 2 p.m. She remained in critical condition Tuesday morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Jatty L. Mullens, 77, of Ionia, and 23-year-old Timothy L. Clark, of Warsaw, were both taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center after the accident. Clark was treated and released while Jatty Mullens continued to receive treatment but was in stable condition Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The accident happened at about 1:40 p.m., when Jatty Mullens failed to yield at the intersection of state Route P and U.S. Highway 65, driving into the path of Clark’s pickup truck, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports. Clark struck the passenger side of the Mullens’ car, where Marie Mullens was sitting and suffered serious injuries.

Neither of the Mullens were wearing seat belts, reports stated.

Charges stemming from the collision are pending.
