Otterville woman died in traffic crash last October

In October, an Otterville woman died after the vehicle she was in was hit by another vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign. The woman was a mother of three, a wife and was involved in many area activities and clubs. Friends and family are now remembering Kristine White and raising funds to help her family purchase a headstone for her grave.

The scrapbooking celebration event in honor of White’s birthday, May 20, is a 24-hour celebration of her life and hobbies, said close friend Jamie Anderson.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and run through 6 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Sedalia.

Anderson said several of White’s friends wanted to help organize the event for the family.

“We thought it would be very cool to do something on her birthday,” Anderson said. “She loved to scrapbook and she loved to make cards.”

Billie Quinley, White’s mother, said White would often make more than 40 handmade cards each week to give to friends and family.

“She was a very talented person,” Quinley said.

White was an active member of First Baptist Church in Sedalia. She taught in the Otterville School District and participated in the mentor program at Heber Hunt Elementary School. White worked at the Plainsman weeklies and The Democrat for three years and Third National Bank. She also managed many youth programs and festivals at her church.

“When it needed to get done, she did it,” Quinley said. “She didn’t do it all, but she could motivate people.”

The event will include snacks, scrapbook vendors, door prizes and raffles.

All people are welcome to participate and should bring their scrapbooking supplies.

People also will have the opportunity to make a page for the White Family Book that will be given to White’s husband and three children.

Anderson said White was thrifty and could turn everyday items into art with a little paint.

“She just lit up the room,” Anderson said.

Some crafts made by White also will be for sale during the event.

Anderson said raffle tickets for a toolbox and a Cricut Expression machine are being sold for $1 each.

Tickets for the event are $30 for the full 24 hours, $15 for Friday only, $25 for Saturday only, $2 for breakfast and $5 for lunch.

All funds raised will go to the “Kristine’s Basket” fund for her family.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at 1st Impressions in the State Fair Shopping Center; Limbaugh Chiropractic Center, 810 Winchester Drive; Total Fitness Gym, 1520 Devin Drive; or by contacting Anderson at 287-3431.
