Cargo planes move to Whiteman
Comments 0 | Recommend 0KNOB NOSTER — Whiteman Air Force Base is providing temporary refuge for eight cargo planes and their crew members, maintenance people and security people because of Tropical Storm Hanna.
Officials from the 509th Bomb Wing received the C-17 Globemaster III aircraft and their associated aircrews, maintenance and security personnel from Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina.
Officials from the 437th Airlift Wing evacuated 13 aircraft in all, including the eight that came here.
According to Charleston officials, the $200 million aircraft left to keep them safe from damage.
Hanna was expected to hit near the border of North Carolina and South Carolina, bringing a lot of rain and wind to the East Coast.
