In 1898, Sedalia booster I. Mac DeMuth issued a second edition of a pamphlet titled “A Feast of Cold Facts.” Designed to encourage factories to locate in Sedalia, It extolled the advantages of Sedalia’s paved streets, public sewers, water supply, railroad connections, electric power lines and streetcar system.

“Quick, sure, and cheap transportation is an invaluable means of economy of time, money, worry and discomfort,” DeMuth noted, sparing Sedalians the expense of keeping a horse and buggy, the general physical discomfort of exposure to heat, cold and rain, as well as “the wear and tear of shoe leather and clothing.”
