Inmate labor wrong call for city cleanups

Posted: Friday, July 13, 2012 12:00 am | Updated: 12:02 pm, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

The Citizens for a Clean Sedalia Committee has discussed some solid ideas for addressing code enforcement issues in the city. However, one idea discussed during Thursday night’s meeting should be dropped. Immediately.

Changing the height of grass at which property owners would receive notice from 12 inches to 8 inches is reasonable, as is shortening the time for response to either 21 or 14 days, down from the current 30-day window. As panel vice chairman Jim Fisher said, “The nature of grass, after 30 days it could be 18 or 24 inches high. Shortening the time period would give people more incentive to get it cleaned up.”
