I just became aware of a letter to the editor questioning the facts of the cattle drives to Sedalia. Since practically no local newspapers exist from that time, it may seem a bit difficult to prove. I spent about 30 minutes doing some searching online and elsewhere to find the following:
Numerous historical sources in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas have articles referring to what they generally call the Shawnee Trail. That name apparently comes from a Shawnee village in Northeast Texas. If you search the Internet, try Shawnee Trail, as well as Sedalia Trail. All agree that from the Baxter Springs, Kan., area, some drives went to Kansas City, some to Sedalia and some to St. Louis.
