Parkhurst: A walk through time offers many lessons

Posted: Wednesday, February 20, 2013 7:15 pm

On Monday of last week, I found myself seeing yet another delay posted on the status board of our airline flight to Washington, D.C. I was tagging along with the Board of Trustees from State Fair Community College on a mission. All board members had signed up for the trip to see our local Congressional representatives in the Capitol.

As you may know, SFCC is mandated to serve a 14-county area with its services. But taxes from Benton County and Pettis County only provide a fraction of the funds required and must be spent locally. The rest comes from tuition, private donations and grants from the state and federal governments. This is especially critical for the outlying areas. Therefore, lobbying our senators and representatives in person is a very important mission.
