Parkhurst: You learn a lot about each other when the power’s out

Posted: Wednesday, February 27, 2013 9:25 pm | Updated: 10:46 pm, Wed Feb 27, 2013.

A couple of weeks ago, I made the statement that I was tired of seeing brown. What I was wishing for was to see the ground green again. Apparently I was not specific enough.

The ground did change color, but to white — as in snow. We live down a 3/4-mile country lane, so when I awoke last week and looked outside I knew right away what I needed to do — blade the lane. It was a powdery snow that I judged about 10 inches deep as I unplugged the block heater on the tractor. (For once I took the weather forecast to heart and filled the wood box and laid out my boots and coveralls the night before.)
