Koetting: Remembering veterans we lost in the past year

Posted: Sunday, May 30, 2010 12:00 am | Updated: 10:18 am, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

Some people fall asleep by counting sheep, I fall asleep counting veterans. I realize that sounds crazy, but if you had met as many as I have, you’d understand why.

Even though The Sedalia Democrat has published more than 240 veteran stories over the past 10 years, it’s only the tip of the iceberg. The World War II veterans are dying at a record pace, with the Korean War veterans not far behind. Meanwhile, the Vietnam veterans are quietly slipping away, too. It’s a race against the clock to get their stories documented and I don’t want to miss any.
