Satnan: Woman proves power of a positive outlook

When Sarah Turner walked into the room, it was immediately evident that she was unlike any of the other contestants in the Miss Pettis County pageant. I’d soon find out she is unlike just about anyone I have ever met.

This is the second year I have served as a judge for the pageant, which was held Thursday evening as part of the Smithton Town and Country Fair. For the interview portion of the competition, the other contestants had the “pageant look” working — precision hair styles and makeup, with attire to match. Sarah came in with her hair worn down, straight as could be, with minimal makeup, cat’s eye glasses and a sporting a multicolor dress. Casual cool, but still completely appropriate.
