Parkhurst: Cellphones are great, but I miss the personal touch

There was a time, it seems not too long ago, that we could grab the phone book and look up someone’s address when we wanted to send them a card or letter. Not anymore — I feel like I have been left in the dust of a society that has passed me by.

When we received our phone book this year the letters were so small one almost needed a magnifying glass to make out the words. This struck me as odd because the people with deteriorating eyesight are the ones who use the directory the most.
