Parkhurst: Restaurant memories offer food for thought

Posted: Wednesday, January 2, 2013 6:23 pm

Last week Judy and I went out for breakfast after we had run some errands in town. Stepping into the North 65 Café was like stepping into a familiar scene. I had not been there for a few years but immediately I got a warm and comfortable feeling.

Everything was in its place at least the way I had remembered it. Like many small cafés there was a table of regulars drinking coffee and solving the world’s problems or talking about the weather. I ordered my usual breakfast. Judy scanned the menu and ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and biscuits. The food was good but when Judy gave me a bite of her biscuit, I thought “Wow!” It was like cake. I hadn’t tasted a biscuit that good since Jim Reed Sr. used to bake them for a Chamber Breakfast 50 years ago.
