Residents have a chance to aid the local economy

Posted: Tuesday, August 24, 2010 12:00 am | Updated: 10:33 am, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

After last year’s success, The Sedalia Democrat has relaunched the “Spend $25 on the 25th” local economic stimulus campaign. Residents have the opportunity to take advantage of local businesses’ special offers  — found on pages A4 and A5 of today’s print edition — and to help pump up our local economy on the 25th of each month, through November.

What is the benefit of shopping locally? We remind you of this statement from ShopLocalsFirst.com, which we shared at the launch of last year’s campaign: “Local, independent businesses assist the community through a ‘multiplier effect:’ One dollar spent at a locally owned business will return almost five times that amount within the community through city taxes, employees’ wages, and purchase of materials and supplies at other independent businesses. In addition, these businesses will turn that dollar back into the community through school funding, social services and contributions to local nonprofit organizations.”
