Satnan: Leave NCLB behind

Posted: Friday, August 26, 2011 12:00 am | Updated: 11:30 am, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

While the most notable development of Wednesday’s Sedalia School District 200 gathering at Smith-Cotton High School was Superintendent Harriet Wolfe’s announcement that she is retiring at the end of the 2011-12 school year, the event also was packed with crowd-pleasing entertainment and not-so-subtle messages worth considering.

The meeting started with a hilarious skit rooted in the “Carnac the Magnificent” bits from “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.” Heber Hunt Principal Bill Betteridge took on the Ed McMahon role, while Director of Bands Brian Kloppenburg served as Doc Severenson, complete with a rockin’ band. Donning the oversized red turban and a cape that looked to have been roadkill until just a few minutes before show time was Steve Triplett, principal of Smith-Cotton High School.
