During all my years of living in Sedalia, I had the opportunity to be surrounded by people who motivated and inspired me. Betty Hopkins is certainly one of those individuals.

Betty is amazing. She is completely “at home” in any part of the world. Her adventures and accomplishments could fill volumes and her stories would be the envy of Hollywood writers who could never come close to creating narratives as important and valuable as those that Betty actually lived.

Her most recent acts of insight, kindness and generosity as related to her “African son” Nick Musyoka and his family (“Kenyan a doctor now, thanks to his ‘American mom,’” Jan. 12-13) can only mean that long after Betty and the rest of us are gone, families halfway around the world will still be blessed.

Thank you to the Sedalia Democrat for giving this story the prominence it deserves, and thank you to Betty for sharing it with all of us.
