Our View: Fans cheering Cassel's injury was a sickening display

Posted: Monday, October 8, 2012 11:36 pm

The base of the term “fan,” as it applies to followers of athletes and sports teams, is “fanatic” — defined as someone with excessive and single-minded zeal. But even the most obsessive of Kansas City Chiefs fans cannot explain away the detestable behavior exhibited Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

Quarterback Matt Cassel, whose inconsistency has been maddening over the past two seasons, dropped back for a pass attempt and was smashed by Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Haloti Ngata.
