Four Concordia residents were injured when a tractor-trailer rig struck an ambulance on Missouri Highway 13 north of Warrensburg Thursday, the Missouri Highway Patrol reported.

Taken to hospitals for treatment were Jeffrey W. McGinnis, 47, Joseph M. Tolias, 45, Norma R. Weisenbore, 74, and Debra Wulser, 54, all of Concordia. Wulser was the ambulance driver and the others were occupants. The truck driver, Cameron K. Laclair, 39, of Cole Camp, told troopers he would seek treatment on his own.

Tolias was taken by helicopter to St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, where he was in good condition Friday morning. The conditions of the others, who were taken to CenterPoint Medical Center in Independence, were not available.

The accident occurred at 11:50 a.m. Thursday as the ambulance was headed south with lights and siren running, and the truck was headed north. The truck crested a hill, and the driver saw that a third vehicle had stopped in the middle of the road for the ambulance. The truck braked, then skidded across the center line and hit the ambulance. The truck sustained extensive damage and the ambulance was totaled, the patrol reported.
