Posted: Wednesday, July 28, 2010 12:00 am | Updated: 10:57 am, Thu Jan 3, 2013.

William O. Golden, of Sedalia, is happy to be celebrating his 82nd birthday today. In his lifetime, he has experienced a few close calls. He was born July 28, 1928, in Davenport, Iowa, and was the youngest of six children.

Three of his brothers decided to enlist, though they each chose a different branch of service. One served in the Navy, one was in the Army and another was in the Marine Corps. William chose the Navy to follow in the footsteps of his brother, Richard Golden.
