World War II, Ernie Fischer Jr.

Ernie Fischer Jr., of Warsaw, went from the farm to the front lines quickly in World War II.

He grew up north of Lincoln near old Highway 65. He was drafted in 1944 and sent to Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He was selected for the infantry and worked with heavy weapons. He shipped out by train to Fort McClellan in Alabama. While he was home on leave, he made sure to attend the Missouri State Fair.
