Nixon looks to expand A-plus scholarship program

Posted: Tuesday, February 1, 2011 12:00 am | Updated: 11:31 am, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

Area students looking to earn a degree from a Missouri community college could have more scholarship opportunities during the 2011-2012 academic year.

In late January, Gov. Jay Nixon announced a plan to expand Missouri’s A-plus program, which provides free tuition to community colleges to qualifying public school students who meet income requirements. Students looking to take advantage of an A-plus scholarship must earn at least a 2.5 grade-point average, have a 95 percent attendance rate, maintain a record of good conduct and perform 50 hours of approved tutoring or mentoring.
