The Knob Noster High School Band program had seven out of the eight students who participated in West Central District Concert and Jazz Band auditions on Nov. 18 place Tim Madison and Kenneth Watson earned spots in both concert and jazz bands.
Students competed head-to-head on their instrument with 482 pre-registered students from 43 schools.
Knob Noster students who earned a spot in the West Central District Honor Concert Band were Junior Caitlyn McKinney, 18th chair clarinet out of 50 auditioners; and Sophomore Tim Madison, ninth chair trombone out of 29 auditioners.
Madison earned third chair trombone in the West Central District Jazz Band.
Senior Markeisha Fewell earned first alternate Baritone Saxophone out of seven auditioners and also first chair Honorable Mention Band for the West Central District Honor Concert Band.
Junior Kenneth Watson earned first alternate drum spot in the West Central District Jazz Band.
Students who made either the District Honor Concert Band or the District Jazz Band as a member or alternate are now eligible to audition for
All-State Honors on Dec. 6 in Columbia. They will also participate in a set of rehearsals and clinics and perform under the direction of a top rated clinician in January 2009.
Four Knob Noster students earned a spot in the West Central District Honorable Mention Band. Junior Kenneth Watson earned third chair Option 1 percussion (eighth out of 17 auditioners); Junior Carrie Binder earned third chair alto saxophone (eighth out of 34 auditioners); Freshman Jordan Allen earned first chair (25th out of 50 auditioners); and Freshman Nick Barylski earned fifth chair (29th out of 50 auditioners).
These students will also perform in January 2009. Ian Smith, who auditioned for the concert band on trumpet, did not rank high enough for an honor band.
