Smith-Cotton High School hosted three West Central Missouri Music Educators Association District Bands on Jan. 12. Two junior high honor concert bands and the High School All-District Jazz Band performed.  

The junior high bands were assimilated from recommendation lists provided by 37 West Central District schools. The high school band members played competitive auditions for their spots in November at University of Central Missouri.

Knob Noster students who were in the seventh-grade honor band were LaTamarra Gates, clarinet; Delina Magee, alto saxophone; Caleb Schaefer and Rylee Parrott, both on trumpet; and Hanul Pechuls, trombone.

Pam Henry was the conductor. She retired in 2008 after a 31-year career in music education.

Knob Noster students who were in the eighth-grade honor band were Heather Barstow, alto saxophone; Elizabeth Eccleton, baritone; Brianna Yacobozzi, clarinet; Jayden Allen, trombone; Coty McGee, trumpet; and Jessie Yates, flute.

Chuck Appleton was the conductor. He retired from Warrensburg High School in 2010, after 23 years of service. He is a music adjunct at Missouri Valley College in Marshall.
