Students from La Monte High School attended the 2013 Missouri, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference from April 7 to 9 in Columbia.
La Monte members who attended the conference were Emily Blackburn, Brittany Green, Devin Weir, Cobey Martin, Joey Perez and Jason Thompson along with their advisor, Doris Jolly. The conference was centered around the student-planned theme of “Mission Possible with Missouri FCCLA!”
Conference sessions focused on helping members strengthen and expand their abilities as public speakers, project planners, chapter organizers and responsible family members and community leaders.
Awards, honors, and recognition were given to outstanding individuals and chapters as well as the announcement of the State STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Competitive Events winners.
Emily Blackburn and Brittany Green received gold medals in the National Programs in Action event with their docu-drama project focusing the dangers of texting and driving. They had the highest score in their category making them the state winners and advancing them on to the national level of competition. The National FCCLA conference will be July 7 to 11 in Nashville, Tenn.
