Members of the Sunrise Optimist paid a visit Tuesday to the Ewing Vocational Center and the Garlich Center to provide cake and ice cream in celebration of the Easter holiday. More than 200 people enjoyed the treats. The club has provided the treats for more than 20 years. The Knights of Columbus Council 831 recently organized the annual Tootsie Roll Drive to benefit people with special needs. Art Borgmeyer, Knights inside guard, and John Main, Knights kitchen coordinator, presented a check for $611 to several Center for Human Services employees and then took a tour of the workshop. The 40th Annual Children's Therapy Center Sedalia Country Club Golf Tournament and 30th Annual Ladies Luncheon/Auction committee members recently presented a check to the Center for Human Services. From left to right: SCC Golf Pro Wayne Ogle, golf chair and center board member Dennis Eding, Center CEO Ann Graff, SCC board president Joe Bode, SCC Club manager Dennis Hagen and ladies luncheon committee member Cindy Mueller-Llewellyn. Numerous local businesses and individuals donated to the events and countless hours of planning by volunteers went into the weekend to make it successful.

Janet Vincent, of the Women's Service League looks through a selection of dresses available Friday and Saturday for people looking for a good deal on formal wear ahead of the group's Feb. 4 Cupid's Ball. The group is hosting the sale through today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hotel Bothwell. Vincent said there are over 200 dresses for sale, ranging in children's size 5 to women's size 18. There are gently used or brand new dresses available. New dresses will also be available from local merchants Formal Affairs and Kay's Bridal & Tuxedo. Admission is free, and proceeds from the event will support the service league's WORTHY cause which stands for Women Organized Resourceful Together Helping Youth.
