    Carl Arnett, of La Monte, recently took this photo in his backyard of this squirrel feasting on corn. His granddaughter, Isabelle Arnett, 4, had gathered the corn the previous day in her pedal tractor and left it in the yard. The next day, the pair found the squirrel helping himself to the bounty.

    Elaine Wood, of Sedalia, won first place from the judges for having the best customized motorcycle, and she also won the people’s choice award. Originally a 2006 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200, she had Yeager’s Cycle convert her winning vehicle into a trike using Frankenstein parts. It also has a storage “truck bed” designed by Wood and a Columbia customizer.

    Dale Malone, owner of Daisy Dukes & Cowboy Boots, recently presented Valarie Swanson, executive director of the Pettis County chapter of the American Red Cross, $6,185.90 that was collected for the Moore, Okla., tornado victims over the Memorial Day weekend fundraiser. Major supporters of the effort were Dukes & Boots, Family Pawn, Mid-Missouri Outlaws, County Distributing, Dairy Queen, Grellner Sales and Yeager Cycle.

  14. Bomber U10 team wins qualifier

    The U10 Sedalia Bombers won the Sports America  Coaches Choice State Qualifier Tournament Sunday in Lee’s Summit. The team will travel to the State Tournament beginning Thursday in Branson. In four tournaments this summer the Bombers (26-4) have two first place and two second place finishes.

    The Bothwell Regional Health Center Foundation recently announced final proceeds of $19,762.50 from its Lub Dub 5K/10K Walk Run, held on April 27. Proceeds from the Lub Dub benefit the Foundation’s Camye Callis Gaspard Memorial Heart Fund to finance improvements in the treatment of heart disease in the area. This year’s funds will be used to purchase an Xper Swing software addition for the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab. The software will allow physicians to get a three-dimensional view during artery studies while cutting the patient’s exposure to radiation and contrast dye.     The Smith-Cotton Lady Tigers soccer team recently raised $9,155 for the Bothwell Foundation’s Gene Loveall Cancer Services Fund. The money will be used for patient programs at the Susan O’Brien Fischer Cancer Center at Bothwell Regional Health Center. The team raised the contributions through a live auction, a silent auction, T-shirt sales and a benefit game played April 18 at Susie Ditzfeld Field. The fundraiser was coordinated by S-C soccer parents Leisa Gero, mother of S-C senior soccer player Tayler Gero, and Darrin Goodson, father of S-C junior soccer player Alexia Goodson. The event has raised $32,609 over the past four years.

    State Fair Community College held its graduation ceremony on Friday. These happy Roadrunners are pictured eagerly waiting outside for the ceremony to begin. According to SFCC, a record 857 degrees and certificates were awarded to 756 candidates for graduation during Friday night’s commencement exercises, including 431 associate of arts degrees, 255 associate of applied science degrees, 34 associate of arts in teaching degrees, two associate of science degrees, 80 professional certificates, and 55 skills certificates. The numbers include students who attended SFCC-Lake of the Ozarks, SFCC-Clinton and SFCC-Whiteman AFB.
