Locals prep for Fireball Run

Locals Ron Ditzfeld and Rick Yeager are getting ready to rev their engines.The planned Fireball Run will race into downtown Sedalia at 1:30 p.m. Friday Oct. 3 with 40 teams, 40 cars and a large film production crew scrambling to 12 “mission” locations and sitting up an afternoon of parades, flash dances and other festivities for the public.The eight day driving competition, an internet-base reality show is leaving from Frisco, Texas, Sept. 26, and racing to Independence. The show, with a 2,000 mile journey, is similar to “The Amazing Race,” but its mission is to help find missing children. This year’s theme is “The American Frontier.”


Doggie Dice Walk to benefit animal shelter

Most people have heard of a poker run involving motorcycles, but this Saturday the Missouri State Fairgrounds will be home to the second annual Doggie Dice Walk to benefit the Sedalia Animal Shelter.Dog owners are invited to spend an hour with their dog walking the fairgrounds for the chance to win prizes. Sacred Heart took third at the California Tournament on Tuesday with a team score of 407, the lowest round the Gremlins have shot as a team this season.Olivia Sobaski shot a 4-over-par 76 to take runner-up honors, finishing three strokes behind Osage’s Taylor Hayes.Abby Smeltzer and Claire Sobaski shot 108s.
