Goss Urbanite Press

The Sedalia Democrat's Commercial Print Division is proud to provide quality printing delivered in a timely fashion.


Our Goss Urbanite press has 12 units with full color capabilities. It can accommodate web widths between 25 and 34 inches, allowing for printing on various broadhsheet, tabloid and mini-tabloid configurations.


Our direct-to-plate process offers uncompromising reproduction of the most detailed images with sharp, legible text.


We use industry-standard software, such as QuarkXpress, Photoshop, Illustrator and others, and can handle most Windows and Mac file formats.

Sending Files

We have a fast, dedicated FTP server for you to send your files. Contact us for login information. You will need to have the proper software and a high speed line to do this. Please do not try to upload files if you are using a dial-up connection.

Line Screens

Line screens are preferred at 100 lines per inch. All jobs are printed at 1200 dots per inch on film. An 85 line per inch screen is acceptable, but please specify if you would like to use it.


Color Ink

Process colors and Ad-Litho colors are available. Special colors are available at an additional cost. Cross reference to PMS colors are available. Please make sure to use UNCOATED numbers. We offer a reasonable match on these colors.


Quarterfolding

We can quarterfold tabloid publications on-press up to 64 pages (depending on color). We can quarterfold off-press up to 96 pages.


Inserting

  • Maximum Insertion size: 10" x 12.5"
  • Maximum drops in one pass: 8
  • Minimum insertion size - 5" x 7" or 8" x 10-1/2" quarter folded
  • Single Sheet Minimum Thickness .0005

Saddle Stitch

Stitch and trim up to 120 pages in-house. Products with more than 120 pages will be processed off-site. Please allow for more time if this is done.

We are compliant with the Recommended Guidelines for Uniform Advertising Inserts issued by the Newspaper Association of America.


Mailing

  • Bar coding and address labeling through our Video Jet system
  • Addresses must be sorted in zip order and pre-sorted for automated rates. They must have the required paperwork and be CASS Certified.
  • If you send the list directly to us, please make sure it is in comma-delimited or .DBF format. Each record must have the same number of fields, and each field should contain the same data for each record. Blank fields are required when no data is present. Each label is limited to 8 lines of print. Each line has a maximum of 50 characters. At 10 characters per inch, this would be a 5 inch label.
  • UPS service is also available.
